Art Deco furniture renovation
The 1930s Art Deco style is refined. It features simple, geometric lines and angular curves. Art Deco furniture is very trendy. Why? Evoking traditional woodworking (the furniture is made of solid wood or refined veneer), it fits into both classic and modern interiors, blending old and new. Art Deco emerged in the late 1920s. This style got its name at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925. It can be found in architecture, furniture, decorative arts, and fabrics. The Orient Express train is one of the most striking examples. I offer furniture such as dressers, display cabinets, sideboards, small pieces of furniture, and Art Deco-style chairs, left unfinished to enhance the wood or painted in contemporary colors.
Art Deco is not Art Nouveau
What is the difference between Art Nouveau and Art Deco? The Art Nouveau style is inspired by natural elements: mainly plant-based, with numerous floral ornaments, curves, and animals. The colors are soft. Mucha is a prime example, as is the glassworks of Nancy (Daum, Gallé, etc.). It is a very exuberant style. Art Nouveau furniture reflects these characteristics. Art Nouveau emerged during the "Belle Époque" period following the Industrial Revolution. It originated in the United Kingdom, notably with William Morris, who advocated a return to nature and craftsmanship in the face of industrial production. Inspired by Japan, Art Nouveau spread internationally but disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century. Art Nouveau brings together craftsmanship and art in all fields. It represents nature in opposition to industry.
