Magnificent Saint Amand Hamage Nord compote dish
Saint-Amand-les-Eaux is located in the North of France. The surroundings are perfect for establishing a faience factory. In 1705 Nicolas Desmoutiers established the first faience factory in Saint Amand. The factory's production was varied, the shape and decorations inspired by Chinese porcelain, like many 18th century faience producers with blue monochrome decorations. The third factory in Saint Amand produced tin-glazed faience with blue or multi-coloured decorations. In 1880, production moved towards the style of Lunéville and Saint Clément. In 1896 a second factory was opened in Wandignies-Hamage and the brand "Saint Amand et Hamage Nord" was registered.
The company consists of 5 factories: two in Saint Amand, one in Wandignies-Hamage, one in Orchies and one in Provins. In 1952 the Wandignies-Hamage factory ("Saint Amand and Hamage Nord") was closed.
